Behavioural addiction

SEVA Behavioural Addiction Intensive

A private, intensive, four-week, one-to-one program for compulsive behaviour that continues despite meaningful harm to relationships, wellbeing, responsibilities, values, or quality of life.

There is no bottle to point at. That is part of what makes this harder to confront and easier to defend. Behavioural addiction usually comes wrapped in a plausible explanation, and high-functioning people are exceptionally good at supplying one.

It started as a solution

The behaviour changed something. It produced escape, relief, control, excitement, or silence where there had been noise. Then it began taking more than it returned. We are not interested in simply removing it. We need to understand why it became worth keeping.

Who this is for

People who have already tried to manage this privately, repeatedly, and know how that ends. It is not for someone looking to renegotiate the program every time it becomes uncomfortable. We are selective. If we take you on, we believe you can do this, and we will expect you to believe it too.

The four weeks

  1. Week one

    Understand

What the behaviour actually does for you, and when it does it. Behavioural addiction hides well, because most of it is legal, normal in moderation, and often rewarded. We map the honest version: the frequency, the concealment, the cost, and the conditions that reliably precede it.

  2. Week two

    Recognize

Catching the internal negotiation as it happens. I've earned this. I have it under control. It's not hurting anyone. I'll stop after this one. The persuader is harder to hear than the critic, because it sounds reasonable. This is the week that changes.

  3. Week three

    Respond

Practising different responses to the urge, the trigger, the empty evening, the stress, the win, the loss. Behaviour that has been automatic for years does not stop being automatic through insight alone. It stops through practice.

  4. Week four

    Adapt

Consolidating the change and getting clear about what it protects: relationships, money, integrity, health, time, self-respect. What you are building instead. Follow-up at thirty, sixty, and ninety days.

Schema, Education, Values, and Adaptation run through all four weeks. They are not scheduled one per week, and the order of the work is deliberate.

Where is this thought trying to take me?

Not every thought deserves to be believed, and the most dangerous ones rarely announce themselves. The critic attacks. The persuader sells. Learning to recognize both, in your own voice, is most of the work, and it is why this program is built the way it is.

Make reality the reflex.

If a different level of care is more appropriate, we will tell you directly and help you find it.
